Davis Place Teen Center

Davis Place Teen Center is part of the Stanwood–Camano Community Resource Center, managed by the Community Resources Foundation. Davis Place opened in 2008 providing a safe, supervised after–school and summer destination for middle and high school age youth. Teens can get help with their homework, hang out with friends, eat a healthy snack and take a free music or art class. An outside stage provides a venue for music events. The Youth Leadership Council gives teens an opportunity to volunteer, plan teen events and give back to the community.

The community center was housed in two older buildings that were in desperate need of updating. The Davis Carlson Memorial is directly involved with raising money for a brand new building to house Davis Place Teen Center, Morgan's Tales Used Bookstore and the Stanwood–Camano Community Resource Center and the Community Resources Foundation administrative offices. To help the Davis Carlson Memorial raise money for the new building, please donate here.

Update!

Capital Campaign For a Safer Building

The Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center was operating out of an 80 year old house on Main Street in Stanwood for 15 years. The plumbing was not functioning. Flooding in past years caused increased deterioration of the building. Toxic mold was discovered in the foundation of the house which made it necessary to move out of the building. The foundation had to close Morgan's Tales Used Bookstore, losing essential revenue for our programs. Resource operations and staff were relocated next door into the Davis Place Teen Center. This space was inadequate for all of the administrative needs that come with operating a community foundation.

The Community Resources Foundation Capital Campaign will fund a new facility. The new facility will house all of the Foundation's programs under one roof, in a 9,000 square foot building. Consolidating our programs in one facility will allow the Foundation to work more efficiently, reduce operating cost and increase revenue. The Resource Center's increased space will eliminate the need to rent space outside the agency for classes and community events. The expanded used bookstore will provide more revenue to fund programs and increased job training opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities. Davis Place Teen Center will double in size and include a drop-in center, space for classes, a computer lab and a music studio. An outside sports court will also be added. The new facility will include a much needed 1,500 square foot community meeting room. The project will cost 2 million to complete. In-kind dontations for consulting and architectural design fees and for building supplies have allowed us to keep costs down and increase community involvement in the project.

The campaign plan stresses the importance of raising the majority of the funds for this project in the community to encourage community involvement and ownership. The majority of the financing has been secured. With the help of many community donations we will open the new community center in the summer of 2013.
